The Characterization and Evolution of Airborne Dust Particles

Dear Colleagues,
Airborne dust is one of the most abundant primary aerosols in the atmosphere. It can be transported around the globe for two more circles in one week and concurrently support plenty of heterogeneous and multiphase reactions to occur on its effective surface. In recent years, under the complex background of climate change and anthropogenic activities, the resurgence of dust storms in East Asia has attracted more attention among the public and scientists than ever before.
Here, we present this Special Issue, as an attempt to better understand these atmospheric particles, including the characterization of dust particles from diverse origins and within different states, and more importantly, the evolution of dust along with the formation of secondary atmospheric species thereon. Studies that are relevant to observation, modeling, laboratory, emission investigation, and a mixture of them, are highly expected and recommended.
We invite original research articles, review papers, and perspectives focused on the topic of airborne dust, including but not limited to the following:
- Dust sources, emissions, and environmental drivers
- Atmospheric transport and transformation of airborne dust
- Effects of airborne dust on public human health
- Evolution of atmospheric trace gases on airborne dust particles
- Photochemical and photocatalytic processes on airborne dust
- Stories of mineral-bearing microdroplet aerosols in the real atmosphere
- Association between Asian dust resurgence and global climate change
