Cover Story: Dietary patterns synchronized with circadian rhythms may influence gut microbiome composition. However, the combined effect of time-restricted eating (TRE) and energy restriction (ER) on the microbiome remains incompletely understood. We investigated whether early or late TRE combined with ER affects gut microbiota composition more than ER alone, and whether these effects persist during follow-up. In a 3-month intervention involving 76 participants with obesity, changes in alpha diversity differed significantly between groups. Significant differences were also observed in taxa such as Faecalibacterium and Subdoligranulum, which were associated with improved fasting glucose levels and reduced diastolic blood pressure in the early TRE + ER group. These findings highlight the importance of further research into personalized TRE strategies. View this paper
