Cover Story: This manuscript investigates the clinical issue posed by chronic constipation, a prevalent condition among individuals with diabetes mellitus (DM) and frequently associated with other significant complications. The research team has conducted a comprehensive review of the literature, focusing on studies related to the pathogenesis of constipation in DM and the diagnostic–therapeutic framework. Notably, the increasing use of GLP-1 RAs in the management of type 2 DM is identified as an emerging cause of constipation. The diagnosis is generally based on clinical evaluation, although invasive methods for assessing colonic transit are available. Treatment primarily involves dietary changes and physical activity; however, the use of laxatives or new pharmacologic agents is recommended for more resistant cases. View this paper
