Cover Story: This 8-week randomized pilot trial examined whether adding daily Greek yogurt to the diets of older adults influences markers of bone turnover and inflammation, particularly when combined with regular exercise. Forty-eight participants aged 55+ were assigned to exercisers with and without yogurt and non-exercisers with yogurt. Greek yogurt increased protein and calcium intake but produced limited effects on bone markers in exercisers and non-exercisers. Some inflammatory cytokines showed modest changes, suggesting potential anti-inflammatory effects independent of exercise. These pilot findings highlight the need for longer, larger trials to clarify whether whole-food dairy proteins can benefit skeletal and immune status in older adults. View this paper
