Cover Story: Restricting carbohydrate-rich foods to control glycemia in diabetes seems logical to many healthcare consumers and clinicians. However, this observational study identified an inverse association between carbohydrate intake (CI) and elevated fasting glycemia in individuals with gestational diabetes. In addition, no significant associations were observed between CI and elevated postprandial glycemia (EPG). Instead, EPG was associated with high-glycemic-index meals and a lower intake of energy, protein, fat, and twelve micronutrients. Possible explanations for these contrasting observations were explored, including factors influencing CI behaviors. These findings underscore the need for further research into dietary approaches tailored to specific subtypes of gestational diabetes. View this paper
