Cover Story: Aortic stenosis is the most common valvular heart disease and is expected to increase in prevalence due to the aging population. It can be promptly detected using echocardiography, which is the main diagnostic tool in the evaluation of patients undergoing surgical or transcatheter aortic valve replacement, both during the periprocedural phase and during the long-term follow-up. Aortic stenosis affects the entire cardiovascular system: echocardiography plays a key role in the identification of the related cardiac structural changes, which have prognostic implications. This review aims to provide an overview of the latest technical tools in echocardiography and the recent algorithms improving the diagnostic accuracy of aortic stenosis. View this paper
