Diagnostics, Volume 14, Issue 17

2024 September-1 - 159 articles

Cover Story: With the growing prevalence of diabetes mellitus, diabetic retinopathy, a major cause of vision loss globally, is on the rise. Traditional diagnostic methods often fall short in early detection, prompting this review to investigate emerging approaches that could enhance care. Technologies such as teleophthalmology, smartphone-based imaging, artificial intelligence with deep learning, and nanotechnology are advancing screening accuracy and accessibility. While these innovations offer promising improvements in early detection and treatment efficiency, challenges such as high costs, insurance coverage limitations, and potential technological biases must be addressed to ensure their effective deployment and broad adoption in diabetic eye care. View this paper
