Cover Story: This article explores the possibility of predicting the efficiency of CO2 mineralization using metallurgical wastes (MWs) from the perspective of chemical thermodynamics. It also identifies promising MWs that can be used to produce construction materials and products. The study examined various MWs from major Russian iron and steel producers, namely blast furnace, electric steelmaking, ferroalloy, and converter steelmaking slag, as well as nepheline slag. The investigated MWs proved capable of absorbing and binding CO2, thereby improving their physical and mechanical properties. Depending on the type of MWs, the quantitative CO2 binding ranged from 5.5 to 11.3 wt.%, whereas the compressive strength varied from 50 to 100 MPa. View this paper
